Job Description
Qualifications (Education and Experience):
Bachelor’s degree Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or other scientific or technical discipline directly related to the labor category + five (5) years experience of which at least three (3) years must be specialized.
OR
AA degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or other scientific or technical discipline directly related to the labor category + seven (7) years experience of which at least six (6) years must be specialized.
OR
Relevant military training or one and one-half (1½) years of relevant military experience + an additional seven (7) years experience of which at least six (6) years must be specialized.
OR
Training certificate(s) from an accredited training program + seven (7) years experience of which at least six (6) years must be specialized. Approved training programs include, but are not limited to, Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle, DEC, Marconi, Nortel, and SUN Microsystems certificate programs.
OR
Ten (10) years experience of which at least nine (9) years must be specialized.
Other Factors:
Secret security clearance is required.
Network Control Operator Level II (NCO/L2) Optical Transport
The Network Controller/Operator II serves as a technical specialist responsible for the monitoring, operating and managing of the NORTEL OPTERA 3500, CISCO ONS 15454, CIENA CORESTREAMÒ, SYCAMORE SN16000 Intelligent Switch, and ADTRAN M13 MUX(s) transport equipment. Provides functional guidance, technical support, training and quality assurance/quality control to Level I personnel. The operator is responsible to troubleshoot and restore, to service, certain components of the Optical Transport network. This includes performing pro-active monitoring of network element alarms and alerts to identify those components/elements, which may lead to or already are causing network degradation or failure. The operator accomplishes this through use of network management system(s) such as PRESIDE AP, CISCO TRANSPORT MANAGER, CIENA ON-CENTERÒ, SILVX MANAGER, TELENIUM, DORADO Red Cell, INMS, and associated assets on a continuous (rotating shifts) basis. The operator shall perform fault isolation and diagnostic/assessment functions to include: determination and execution of corrective action(s) on real-time basis. The operator will Interface with functional users as well as remote operations centers in both routine and reactive monitoring situations. The operator will maintain logs and records associated with reported problems or situations within their realm of responsibility. The operator will execute all reporting functions and data input associated with network management. They will monitor security posture of the Optical Transport network and report any suspected violations to designated authority. The controller will coordinate with configuration management and implementation entities (Tier II) to ensure optimum dissemination
